We would like to invite you to join us in watching the first regional Saddlebred show of the season. We will meet at the barn on Saturday March 14th at 7am to head to Clemson. We will spend the day at the show then return home late Saturday night. We can carpool or simply follow each other down. Chad will be staying home to take care of the horses. 33rd Annual ASAC SPRING CLASSIC HORSE SHOW March 12-14, 2020Sponsored by the American Saddlebred Association Of The Carolinas T. ED GARRISON ARENA Competing in Horse Shows We are starting to get horse show dates posted on our website. You can see them at https://www.foxwoodequestriancenter.com/horse-shows.html Please note: We are waiting on the dates for a couple more shows that will be added. There is no pressure here, you are welcome to compete, watch and cheer on the show team, or just avoid the chaos altogether. We are happy with whatever you choose. :-) Please reach out to Sara if you are interested in showing. She would be happy to talk to you about it and answer any questions you have. Show Clothes If you are interested in competing there is a great convention coming up in Concord on February 7 & 8th where you can get used show clothes for a reasonable cost from The Patchwork Pony. They are open after 4pm on Friday the 7th and 9 to 5 on Saturday the 8th. You do not need to pay to attend the convention if you are just going to shop the vendors. For more info you can go to https://www.asacsaddlebred.com/general-information-convention and http://thepatchworkpony.shoprw.com/home.php Sara has measurement sheets so that you can be measured and the info sent to the Patchwork Pony prior to the convention. That way they will make sure to bring a good selection of items in your sizes. OSHA (Not the workplace safety org!) There is a great organization called the Open Horse Show Association. www.showohsa.com For $20 - $25 annually you submit your placings from any Open/Non-Rated show you attend and work towards year end awards. We have seen some pretty nice awards such as, engraved brushes, trophies, plaques, huge rosette ribbons, bridle bags, etc… Most of the shows we attend this season will be non-rated so it would be a fun and easy way to win some national recognition! Again, no pressure to join and there is nothing in it for me. LOL! But if you are showing and want to shoot for some extra recognition to put on a college resume, I say go for it. :-) USEF Lettering (United States Equestrian Federation) I believe I spoke with most of you about USEF’s athletic lettering program. Basically your child needs to become a USEF member then sign up for the lettering program. It is similar to how some of us earned a football letter in high school (or in my case a band letter, 'cause I was a band geek!). This is another great thing for a college resume. You can start in 5th grade, if your child is older than that they allow you to apply for prior years. By the time your child graduates high school they could very well have 8 athletic letters to brag about on their college resume. You can learn more at https://www.usef.org/learning-center/youth-programs/lettering 4-H We are looking to start up an equine 4-H club that will meet one Saturday a month starting in February at the stable. This is a great opportunity to learn more about horses. We will learn behavior, first aid, emergency preparedness, showing, handling, leg wrapping, about tack and more! Again it is another great college resume item. (Are you starting to see a theme? LOL!) and it is a ton of fun for the kids. They run the 4-H club with just an adult or two to help support and guide when needed. It is only $25 per year to join and you do not need to have a horse, ride at Foxwood or ride anywhere to join. Kids ages 6-17 just need to be interested in learning about horses. Please let Sara know if your child is interested in joining the club or if you would be interested in being a parent volunteer. Thank you for being a part of the Foxwood family! We are so happy to have each and everyone of you at our stable and home!
